This is an antique black ebony Edwardian era English darning mushroom or darner made of wood or treen with a turned handle and the original metal ring used to secure the sock, which is usually missing.
The turned wood handle has 2 incised rings and is in two pieces, although the 2 don't separate.
The darner was made in England 1900-1910 and measures 4.5 inches long by 2.375 inches in diameter.
I would call the condition good ++ because of a number of dents, cuts and signs of use, which is actually great antique patina.
The ring is incised with the patent date of Dec. 18, 1900.
A lot of character and is very collectible. Neat!
The darning tool is a great decorative accent as well and a great vintage sewing gadget.
