This is a fancy hand cut glass English master open salt or salt dip made 1860-1900 by an unknown English company, although I was told it was Sowerby but have been unable to verify that.
The hexagonal salt has a star bottom and measures 1.5 inches high by 2.75 in diameter.
The salt is very like the McKee Tomato salt of the same era, but the McKee version is a bit bigger and made of pressed glass while this is of cut crystal.
The open salt is in very good ++ used vintage condition with no cracks and no major chips but does show tiny facet fleabite chips from use and age.
A lovely piece, and perfect for other uses besides salt, like individual sauce portions or as a teabag caddy or ring holder.
