This cute little mottoware or motto ware pedestal single egg cup, was made by Watcombe, Torquay in Devon, England 1900-1920 and features the usual cottage and the motto Speak Little Speak Well.
The eggcup measures 2.75 inches high and is 1.75 inches in diameter. The Mottoware egg cup is in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips or cracks and only some normal crazing typical for age and material.
This famous and fun pottery was manufactured in the south of England from the 1870s until the factories closed in the 1960s.
Mottoware is usually of red clay decorated with bright glazes, cottages and mottos or sayings that run the gamut from proverbs and sound advice to nearly outrageous. Always fun and different and very collectible! A great piece for your breakfast egg and soldiers.
